Subject of Lesson:Addition with Regrouping Conclusion
Principle of Instruction:The principle of instruction for this lesson is to conclude the regrouping lesson for the students by using different technologies.A Powtoon Video will be used to introduce the students to the lesson covering the bases of Regrouping. After the video is shown, the students will be asked to use an iPad to complete a Regrouping activity individually. The students will then use Padlet to answer a few different word problems as a class, and a few word problems/final discussion question will be posted on the Padlet to promote a whole group discussion.
Problem Centered:The students will be shown a variety of different applications to practice Regrouping with. This lesson will be a review of the previous lessons and will serve as closure to the prior lessons.
Activation:The student’s prior knowledge will be activated by covering the information they learned in the previous lessons through the Powtoon video. The prior knowledge will be activated throughout the entirety of this lesson, since it is the final day of the unit.
Demonstration: The students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge through the individual work on the application and the teacher will be able to see how each student performed. If the students do not get 80% or more of the questions correct, they will have to perform the task on the iPad again.
Application: The students will apply their knowledge through the iPad application and then the final word problems/discussion on the Padlet.
Integration: The students will be encouraged to use this skill in future math lessons, as well as every day life. The discussion question provoked thought about using Regrouping with subtraction, which is what the students will learn next. I will show a video introduction Regrouping with subtraction to introduce the new lesson and have students begin to think about how it is done. Regrouping with Subtraction Video
